FUND RAISING & FUN FILLING PROGRAMMES OPENED BY THE CHAIRMAN
The dental college students held three days of fund raising and fun filling from the 29th October, the ordination anniversary of Fr. Bala. The chairman of the college, Bishop Jaya Rao inaugurated the stalls and encouraged the students to learn to be charitable from student days. He appreciated the students for running HELPING HANDS to help the poor and needy. Each batch owned a stall through which they earned. The highlight of the occasion was the candle light formation.
September 5th was celebrated in a grand way by the inmates of the ladies hostel of SJDC. Earlier in the day, the students felicitated the teaching staff on the occasion of Teachers Day. Dr.Srikanth, Intern presented a short film on the staff of the college, which was applauded by all the auditorium. In the evening, a cultural festival was organized in front of the Ladies hostel.
St. Joseph Dental College was adjudged best for its Oral Hygiene day celebrations. Every year the National oral hygiene day is celebrated on 1 August. The department of Periodontics conducted various programs that included a FLASH MOB program in the Fire Station Centre. This program was the high light in the entire country and SJDC bagged the first prize. The Prize will be awarded during the National Periodontics Conference to be held in Jaipur in October 2014.
The PGs celebrated their Fresher’s day on the 21st of September, 2014. Dr.Kamineni Srinivas, honorable Minister for Health and Medical education, government of A.P. was the chief guest. He advised the students to make healthy friendships during their five year stay in the campus and develop their skills to be good dentists and good human beings. The Principal, Dr.Sleeva Raju and Dr.Srinath, Director of PG studies explained the rules and regulations that guide the curriculum for the next three years. A grand cultural show was organized by the senior students. Dr.Seshavataram and Fr.Bala were on the dais.
The thirteenth batch of BDS students entered St. Joseph family on the 8th of September, 2014. Sri Maganti Babu, honorable MP of Eluru and Sri Chintamaneni Prabhakar, Whip of AP government inaugurated the academic session and encouraged the students to pursue the course with commitment to the poor. They appreciated the services of the Roman Catholic diocese of Eluru. Fr.Bala recalled how late bishop John started the college and conveyed the good wishes of the present chairman, Bishop Jaya Rao who is in Vatican on some important work. Dr.C.L.Venkata Rao, TDP health wing President delivered the keynote address and explained the government policies on medical and dental education in the State and the country.
SJDC was ready for another historic moment when His Eminence Telesphore Cardinal Toppo visited the Dental College on the afternoon of 28th of January, 2014. He was accompanied by the Chairman, Bishop Jaya Rao and Bishop Udumala Bala. The Secretary and Correspondent, Fr.Bala introduced the Cardinal to the gathering. The Cardinal was felicitated by the management and students. Bishop U.Bala who was visiting the College for the first time was also felicitated. The Cardinal felicitated Bishop Jaya Rao and appreciated him for the wonderful Dental College. He said he knew how difficult it is to start and run a professional college like a medical or dental college and shared with the audience that the CBCI wanted him to start a Medical College in Ranchi and the land acquisition was in progress. He asked the students to be diligent in their studies and stand for the poor in the society. Bishop U. Bala said that Education is a powerful tool for change and the educated must behave responsibly.
St. Joseph Dental College had its first formal Sports Meet under the chairmanship of the new Principal, Dr.Sleeva Raju. The weeklong events concluded on the 1st of January, 2014 ignited the sportsmanship among the students. Each batch of students was given a different colored jersey. The undergraduates were divided into five batches and the PGs and staff formed the other two batches thus making the battle more interesting.
