SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS ON THE 29TH OF OCTOBER, 2012
Rev. Fr.Bala, the director of St. Joseph Dental College celebrated the completion of 25 years of his priesthood on the 29th of October, 2012 in the sprawling play grounds of the college. It may be recalled that Most Rev. John Mulagada, the first bishop of Eluru ordained Fr. Bala a priest on this day in 1987. The Campus resounded with joyful praise to God when he concelebrated a Solemn Thanksgiving Mass together with Fr.Stalin who was also ordained in 1987.
The Solemn Mass began at 5 pm. Most Rev. Prakash Mallavarapu, the archbishop of Visakhapatnam and the apostolic administrator of Eluru diocese; Most Rev. Gali Bali, the bishop of Guntur and the President of the Andhra Pradesh Bishops’ Council; Most Rev. Govindu Joji, the bishop of Nalgonda; Most Rev. Mathew Cheriankunnel, Bishop emeritus of Kurnool and hundreds of priests and religious, thousands of faithful joined Fr.Bala to thank the Lord for all the good things He has done in the life of Fr.Bala and through him to many. Fr.Bala said that God is responsible for all the wonderful things he accomplished in his 25 years of priestly service. He also remembered the late bishop John Mulagada and said that we were all in this place because of his vision.
St.Joseph Dental College too celebrated the jubilee of 10 years. Celebrating 10 years of Excellence was the theme of the decennial celebration. This college started by Bishop John in 2002 rose to great heights in these 10 years. It is nothing but God’s grace manifested to the people of this area. Hundreds of students and thousands of patients benefitted from this institution. God has been great to these institutions and Fr.Bala. Let us thank God on this occasion.
Sri Kanna Laxminarayana, honourable Minister for Agriculture, Government of Andhra Pradesh attended the celebrations as the chief guest. He congratulated Fr.Bala on behalf of the government and appreciated the services of the dental college in particular and the services of the Church in general. Many political personalities and district authorities felicitated Fr.Bala. Ms. Vani Mohan, IAS, the district Collector congratulated the students for being in a very good institute and advised them to be doctors who value values in the society. The function came to an end by 10 pm with a sumptuous meal.
CONVOCATION FOR THE CLASS OF 2007 on 30th October, 2012
100 new graduates received their certificates from the hands of Sri. B. Prasada Rao, IPS, the director general of ACB, Andhra Pradesh on the 30th of October, 2012. The campus was electrified when 100 of its children stood up in convocation gowns in procession from the Lobby of the General Hospital with the Dignitaries lined up ahead of them, Sri. B. Prasada Rao, Dr.Karunakar, Dr.T.Muralimohan, Dr.K.J.Ramesh, Principal and Fr.Bala, the secretary and correspondent. Police band played to the occasion and the procession stopped at the statue of St.Joseph our Patron, where the statue was garlanded by the chief guest, Principal and the secretary. At 6 pm the gathering stood up to welcome the dignitaries and the new graduates. The function was well organized. Fr.Bala in his welcome address traced the history of the college over the 10 years of its excellence. Dr.K.J.Ramesh administered the dental oath to the new graduates. Sri.B.Prasada Rao, IPS, the chief guest delivered the Convocation address and gave away the gold medals and certificates. He is not only a Police officer of high ranking, but also a scientist in his own right. His paper on the theory of Light “New light on Light” was published in an Italian scientific journal. His interest in Physics never waned, he being a graduate from the IIT, Chennai. He continues his research in Physics and goes Hong Kong shortly to present another paper. He also published a book on English language called, “Word Power to Mind Power”. An eminent educationist and an earnest anglophile, Sri Prasada rao, IPS encouraged the graduates not to lose interest in research and continuing education. He also said in his address, that dentists should not lose their focus on ethical practice and compassion to the patient.
Swathi was awarded the Gold medal instituted in memory of Bishop John Mulagada for Overall Topper in the College. She also bagged the prestigious Gold Medal instituted by Dr. K.J. Ramesh, the Principal for Best Out Going Student -2012. The first was awarded by the chief guest and the second medal was awarded by Sri Ramesh Reddy, IPS, S.P. of West Godavari district.
The parents of the new graduates could not but appreciate the event which was conducted with great precision. As the new graduates received the certificates and medals, fire crackers went on uninterrupted. Dr.Sleeva Raj, HOD Orthodontics, spent a great deal of time in organizing this unique event.
Dr.Karunakar, Principal, Pananiya dental college, Hyderabad, also a member of Dental Council of India, exhorted the students to bring good name to the country and the alma mater. He also told the students to download the notification of the DCI that this batch is exempted from 12 months of internship. Dr.Muralimohan, Principal, Government Dental college, Vijayawada spoke about the excellent ranks secured by our students, congratulated the management and the Principal. The formal programme ended with the National Anthem at 8.30 pm. The programme came to an end by midnight with a cultural gala staged by the outgoing interns and other students.
